Not everyone is lucky enough to have a spacious bathroom. So when remodeling a small bathroom, its important to plan carefully before jumping right into the process. The idea is to create a functional, well-styled bathroom despite its size. Here are some ideas when remodeling small bathroom spaces.
Choose and place fixtures wisely
Go for bathroom fixtures that are smaller and place them strategically to maximize space. For example, placing a toilet or a sink at the corner of the bathroom would give more space for other fixtures.
Go for open storage
Use open shelves instead or large, bulky cabinets. This will help the room appear to be larger than it really is. Floating shelves, storage ladders, and stacked wooden crates are just some items that can be used.
Use functional design items
A small bathroom can easily become cluttered. Its best to only add items that are useful and functional. Mason jars and stackable baskets are some items that arent just functional, but stylish as well. Add towel bars to save on surface space or a small open-based table for magazines and flowers.
Be ready with a color palette
Its best to plan a color palette before purchasing paint, fixtures, and other items. Traditionally, neutral colors are used for bathrooms as these are pleasing to the eyes. But dont be afraid to try bold colors and patterns. Use the small space as a chance to experiment with colors that would look awkward in an otherwise large bathroom.
Strategically use tiles
Using patterned tiles for floors will add an interesting focus to a small space. To make the bathroom appear larger, install colorful tiles that will cover the walls from the floor to the ceiling. Since the bathroom is small, indulging in expensive tiles wont be much of a budget problem.
Consider eliminating enclosures
Having barriers or enclosures can divide a bathrooms space, thus making it appear even smaller. Many small modern-styled bathrooms have eliminated even shower enclosures which make the space larger. If the shower area needs to be separated when in use, try using curtains instead. Go for drapes instead of a normal shower curtain to make the bathroom look more sophisticated and spacious.
Install a big mirror
A big mirror can immediately give a small bathroom the illusion that its larger than it really is. Place large mirrors over bathtubs or even over windows for added privacy. Reuse vintage frames for mirrors to hide chipped and damaged edges.
