Google Launching Phones

Google Inc plans to sell its own cellphone direct to consumers as soon as next year, bypassing wireless operators in a rare strategic move, the Wall Street Journal cited sources. It is called the Nexus one and it is been made by smartphone maker HTC, the phone will run on the search giant’s Android operating system — around which Motorola and other cellphone makers have built devices — and will be sold online. The Internet search leader may be sounding a challenge to wireless carriers such as Sprint and Verizon, as well as smartphone makers like Apple. It marks a departure for the leader in Web advertising, which has rarely sold devices directly to consumers, the newspaper said.

Research house IDC estimates the market share for Android operating software rose to 5.4 percent from 4.2 percent in July-September in Western Europe, a key market.Executives at HTC, the Taiwan-based world’s No. 4 smartphon brand, were not available for comment. Google was also not available for comment. Google began sharing a version of the Nexus One with employees in recent days, the newspaper cited its sources as saying.

Increase Of Mobile Devices

It is being expected that the number of mobile devices transported every year, will get double within five years, according to ABI Research. This year, about 1.2 billion phones, media players, modems and netbooks have been shipped. The analyst group predicts that these numbers are likely to touch 2.25 billion by 2014. This jump is likely to be achieved on the back of growth in every other area apart from cellphones.

Despite the increasing popularity of smartphones, the entire sector seems to be saturated enough and it is likely to grow at mere four percent. Modems, such as 3G adapters, are likely to grow at about 40 percent each year while “ultra mobile devices” like media players and mobile Internet devices (MIDs) will grow as much as 67 percent every year. These devices have a small share now but may catch up as cellular carriers shift towards non-traditional data plans. Most of the providers, including most North American carriers often subsidize netbooks. They are expected to provide similar treatment for tablet devices.

Honda’s V4 Engined Super Bike

Honda showcased the prototype version of its new V4-powered 1200cc sports tourer at the 6th International Motorcycle and Scooter Fair held in Cologne (Intermot Show) last year in October. The V4 concept bike with its hubless wheels and ultra-futuristic looks predominately intrigued the global media about this new model as it was a big moment for Honda who celebrated 30 years of V4 engines in 2008. Speaking to the media at the 2008 EICMA show held in November in Milan, Shigeru Takagi, President and MD of Honda Motor Europe Ltd, commented, “I am happy to be able to confirm that there is a link with the V4 concept to more than one model in our future model lineup. The first production machine related to the V4concept bike will be delivered in the first half of 2010. And there be more to come.

Ever since then honda has given out step by step updates about the development of its V4 project and finally last week, first prototype of the production ready model was caught testing in the Swiss Alps. Our sources confirmed that the new bike carries the same design philosophy as seen on the prototype displayed at the Intermot show. The most ground-breaking addition on the new V4 is the integration of honda’s latest technological innovation - the Dual Clutch Transmission system. The headlight styling is quite identical to the concept model albeit with a more production-friendly design. The concept bike’s aerodynamic styling is carried forward on this new big-bike from honda that is very likely to replace honda’s warhorse, the Super Blackbird as well as it will also form the base for the next generation VFR.
